Schools in North Jakarta to have honesty canteens

JAKARTA: North Jakarta Mayor Bambang Sugiyono said Tuesday he expected all schools in the municipality to have honesty canteens in a bid to familiarize children with honest behavior.

Only 11 of North Jakarta's 334 schools them honesty canteens.

"Honesty cannot be developed through formal education, it cannot be forced. Children will be affected by their environment and the people with whom they interact," Bambang was quoted as saying Tuesday by news portal beritajakarta.com.

He said he expected the students would learn about honesty through the canteen where they could freely choose food and drinks and pay accordingly.

Bambang said he wanted honesty canteens not only in schools but in all administration offices in North Jakarta.

"I will set up an honesty canteen in the North Jakarta municipality office," he said. - JP
