MEDAN: A three-day-old infant, who suffers from a bowel disorder, was abandoned at Pirngadi Hospital on Friday.

It was reported that the baby's father had taken his child to the hospital and then had abandoned it after he found the extent of the medical expense. He asked to return home to fetch clothes and other needs for his child but did not come back.

Hospital spokesperson Edison Peranginangin said the hospital would take medical treatment on the infant on the fund apportioned from the social health insurance.

"We have formed a medical team from various specializations to operate on the baby," he said.

Edison hoped the child parents would come to the hotel.

"If they can't afford the expense, we can use social health insurance."

According to the Child Protection Center, the cases of child abandoned by parents had risen.

Friday's finding was the third case in the past two months while 19 cases were recorded in 2009. - JP
