The Pacific Tsunami Alert Center does not include Indonesia among Asia Pacific countries affected by the major earthquake that shook Chile on Saturday.
In its website, the center paints Papua, Indonesia’s easternmost territory that faces Pacific Ocean, green, as an indication that an area is safe from the impacts of tsunami.
The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency says Papua will remain unaffected by the killer wave as it is located too far away from the epicenter of the quake, which has killed over 200 people.
Following the Chile quake, a number of websites said tsunami would strike six Indonesian towns at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, tempointeraktif.com reported.
The tsunami struck the Asia-Pacific region Sunday, but little damage was being reported as nations evacuated their coastlines well in advance of the waves generated by a devastating Chile earthquake.
