The Bintan regional polls body has registered 116,002 eligible voters for the May 26 election, up by nearly 9,000 from those eligible to vote in the presidential election in July last year.
The polls body’s head of voter registration, Muslim, said Sunday the election commission would verify the eligibility of the voters and open the registration until it announces the permanent voter list on March 26.
“We don’t want to hear complaints about eligible voters who are unregistered for the election,” Muslim told Antara, adding that the provisional voter list was available at coffee shops, homes of neighborhood unit heads, village administration offices and night watch patrol posts.
Voter list was a cause for concern in the legislative and presidential elections last year as many ineligible voters, such as children and military and police personnel, were registered while eligible voters missed out from the list.
The regional election in the tourist resort island of Bintan will be held simultaneously with the election for the regent posts in Lingga and Anambas islands and the Riau Islands gubernatorial election.
