Tangerang to build shelter for homeless

TANGERANG: In an attempt to cope with rising social problems, the Tangerang municipal administration planned to build a rehabilitation center for street beggars and homeless people in the near future.

Agus R. Wahyudin, chief of rehabilitation and social counseling at the municipal social agency, said that the rehabilitation center would be built on 1 hectare of land in Neglasari district this year.

"The administration has allocated Rp 5 billion *US$540,540* from the budget to finance the construction and we have prepared the master plan for the project," he said Tuesday.

Agus said due to the absence of a rehabilitation center and shelter house, the administration had temporarily used a dormitory belonging to Persikota football team in Neglasari to accommodate the homeless netted in public order raids.-JP
