KPK discuss Century case

A- A A+

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) held a “case exposé” – a prelude before it can launch a full-blown legal investigation – on the alleged graft surrounding the Bank Century bailout Thursday.

KPK spokesman Johan Budi, however, denied it was linked to the House of Representatives' plenary meeting a day earlier that resulted in a conclusion that the disbursement of Bank Indonesia's liquidity assistance and the bailout of the ailing Century were illegal.

"This is a routine [process] in an investigation into any case.

“Investigators will present facts and evidence to decide on whether the investigation can proceed," Johan told reporters.

He added the KPK would never simply rely on the political processes at the House of Representatives.

"KPK's conclusions [on the case] may be similar, [or they] may be different [to the conclusions of the House]," he said.

However, Johan went on, if the House handed over recommendations and evidence on the Century case, it would be helpful to support the KPK's investigation.

KPK has started its investigation into Century case early this year. Several witnesses, mostly officials from Bank Indonesia, have undergone questioning at the commission.
