Pro-SBY mass rally in Surabaya

Thousands of supporters of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono are to stage a rally in front the East Java Legislative Council in Surabaya on Thursday.
People claiming to be from SBY’s Democratic Party's Indonesian Democratic Youth Front (AMDI) have been gathering since early this morning, news portal tempointeraktif.com reported.
They brought speakers and musical instruments on a trailer truck. “We are coming here for a peaceful demonstration. We are just going to sing to support SBY and Boediono,” Bambang MS, one of the rally coordinators, said.
A total of around 5,000 people are expected to join the rally.
After a protracted debate, the House of Representatives’ plenary meeting Wednesday gave a resounding vote of no confidence to the government’s decision to bail out Bank Century, saying the Rp 6.76 trillion (US$716 million) handout was flawed.
Yudhoyono had said earlier he was responsible for the bailout decision made by Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati and the then Bank Indonesia governor – now Vice President – Boediono.
