Christopher Rungkat and Nesa Arta assured Indonesia of an unassailable 3-0 lead over Malaysia in their Davis Cup Asia Oceania group II match in Kuala Lumpur, following their 6-2, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(8-6) over Adam Jaya and Si Yew Ming on Saturday.
Indonesia will now play Thailand, which also took a 3-0 winning lead over Pacific Oceania, in the second round of the competition in July.
First singles Rungkat will take on Si Ming Yew and Sunu Wahyu Trijati face Malaysia’s second singles Ariez Elyaas Deen Heshaam in the reverse singles matches on Sunday, which are no longer decisive.
Rungkat and Sunu had won their respective match on Friday to give Indonesia a commanding 2-0 lead.
“We are content with the team’s performance. They played well in general,” Indonesian tennis team official Johannes Susanto said.
A win over Thailand in July will move Indonesia closer to the World Group playoff in September.
