JAKARTA: Police have announced their arrest of a man last Tuesday for trying to steal the rearview mirror from a Toyota Alphard on Jl. Wijaya, South Jakarta.
At a press conference Friday, Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Boy Rafli Amar identified the suspect only as a 21-year-old man who had previously served 15 months in prison for petty theft.
He said the suspect had pretended to be a busker while trying to rip off the rearview of the car that was stuck in a traffic jam.
The driver, Ahmad Jayadi, reported the incident to the police.
In a separate incident, police arrested two men for stealing rearviews from the same type of car in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Wednesday.
Police have warned drivers of luxury vehicles to be on the alert in areas such as Jl. Wijaya, Jl. Gatot Subroto near the House of Representatives building in South Jakarta, and the Cempaka Putih intersection in East Jakarta. - JP
