A police investigator testifying in a widely-publicized drug possession trial involving a former employee of a Southeast Maluku-based fishery company said Tuesday the Jakarta Police had arrested Susandi “Aan” Sukatma in accordance to the procedure, rebutting the defendant's claim that he had been framed by the detectives.

”On Dec. 14 night, I received a call from a Maluku police officer, saying that he and other two officers had red-handedly found a crushed Ecstasy pill from a man they interrogated in embezzlement and illegal firearm possession cases,” Comr. Apollo Sinambela, a unit head from the Jakarta Police's narcotics division, told a hearing at the South Jakarta District Court.

”The police officers said they found the crushed pill after asking the defendant to show all the things in his wallet.”

After receiving the report, Apollo said he had immediately rushed to the Artha Graha building in South Jakarta, where the police officers interrogated Aan, to pick hum up to the city police headquarters for another questioning.

Apollo told the court he had not seen any evidence of torture against Aan.

“The defendant looked tired but I didn’t see any bruises or wounds in his face or body,” the former head of Jagakarsa police precinct, South Jakarta, said.

Aan, however, insisted the police had wrongfully arrested and assaulted him during the interrogation.
