MEDAN, North Sumatra: The North Sumatra High Court has reduced the sentence of Chandra Panggabean - allegedly the main intellectual actor in the violent rally that killed legislative speaker Abdul Aziz Angkat in February last year - from eight years to seven years and six months.
The process of sentence reduction for Chandra, who was head of the Tapanuli Province Autonomy team, reportedly proceeded with difficulties after a high court judge handling Chandra's appeal case, Jatinar Nababan, decided to cut one-and-a-half years from his original sentence.
But the decision was overruled by the judgment from two other judges who decided to sentence Chandra to seven years and six months.
When confirmed, Jatinar said he respected the decision made by his two colleagues.
