The rupiah is expected to strengthen to Rp 9,400 per US dollar by the end of 2010, and to 9,200 by the end of 2011, UBS currency strategist Nizam Idris says.
"Our estimate for this year is between 9,000 and 9,500 per dollar," he said Tuesday.
Nizam said three Asian currencies — the rupiah, the Indian rupee and Chinese yuan — would likely not be impacted by a predicted global economic slowdown in the second half of this year.
The rupiah is more affected by inflation, he said.
"If inflation is not controlled, we will see the currency weakening again," he said.
