Dry season coming between March, June

JAKARTA: The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said Tuesday the dry season in Indonesia would begin between March and June.

Agency chief Sri Woro B. Harijono said the dry season had just begun in East Nusa Tenggara, while in Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Maluku the dry season would only arrive in June.

Some regions may face droughts because the dry season will come early after relatively low rainfalls during the past wet season, he said. These regions included Bali, East Java, West Nusa Tenggara and part of Central Java, he said.

Based on past experiences of the El Niño weather phenomenon, Indonesia would not experience extreme droughts, Antara reported. — JP
