Victims and families of the victims of the 2002 Bali bombing expressed their relief Wednesday over the death of one of the alleged perpetrators, Dulmatin, during a shootout in Pamulang, Tangerang, on Tuesday.

“Hopefully, the death of Dulmatin can ease the grievance endured by the families and friends of the victims,” Raden Supriyo Laksono, the chairman of the Istana Dewata Foundation, an organization for the victims and families of the Bali bombing, told kompas.com.

Supriyo said he also hoped terrorists could learn something from Dulmatin’s death.

“I hope they realize that committing acts of terror actually violates religious teachings,” he said.

The death of Dulmatin, a 39-year-old Indonesian trained by Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan, was confirmed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Wednesday during his visit to Australia.
