Kalla doesn’t believe in Century political deal

JAKARTA: “How can people make political deals when everything has been done
openly?” Kalla said referring to the recent legislative inquiry into
the Rp 6.76 trillion (US$716 million) Bank Century bailout.
Yudhoyono’s political foes insisted the bailout was unjustified and
demanded criminal investigations, while Yudhoyono maintains that
government bureaucrats cannot be criminalized for decisions they made
unless they made them with bad intentions.
The tension has sparked speculation that the rival camps have been
working on political deals. One theory says the Golkar Party,
Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and Indonesian Democratic Party of
Struggle (PDI-P) mean to use their bargaining positions to gain favor
for their politicians undergoing corruption investigations. — JP
