JAKARTA: Around 500 contract workers for North Jakarta Sanitation Agency have not received payment for work they did in January and February.
“It has almost been three months, in fact. Usually we get paid on the 10th of every month,” said Hartati, 40, as quoted by vivanews.com on Tuesday.
Hartati has worked with the agency for 20 years. She usually cleans the streets around Ancol and Jl. Martadinata in North Jakarta.
Hartati normally receives Rp 500,000 a month. She complained that this was not enough.
North Jakarta Sanitation Agency chief Indra Widjaja said there had been a delay in payments for 500 contract workers because the transfer system that was previously handled by the provincial agency had been handed over to the municipal administration.
He promised to disburse the payments on March 15. — JP
