The South Tangerang municipal administration has promised to improve neighborhood security following raids on two separate locations in Pamulang, Tuesday in which three terror suspects were killed.
“We will mobilize all apparatus, including neighborhood units, community units, subdistrict and district levels in response to these terrorists,” Ahadi, an administration assistant, said Wednesday.
He said the apparatus will conduct sweeps on rent houses and boarding houses in South Tangerang in a bid to detect any possible terrorist infiltration.
“The regulation is clear. If [newcomers] live in South Tangerang for six months without ID cards from the local administration, we will send them back to their hometowns,” he said.
To control the movement of unregistered residents, the administration will assign public order officers to monitor them on a regular basis.
Abdul Halim, a neighborhood unit chief in Pamulang said the administration conducted a meeting with all district, subdistrict, community units and neighborhood unit chiefs on Tuesday evening to discuss security improvements.
“The meeting aimed to build coordination,” he said.
Nurhayat, a local resident, said the house of Fauzi Syarif, a physician working at a hospital in Tangerang, had been used as a base by the terror suspects for a year, since Fauzi became acquainted with known terror suspect Abu Jibril.
“No local residents joined the religious gathering frequently held every Sunday in the house,” he said.
Nurhayat said that neighbors were actually suspicious of the gathering but since Fauzi was a polite and religious man, they respected the group's privacy.
“It’s hard to believe that Fauzi is involved in a terror network,” he added.
During the raid, the police shot Ridwan and Hasan Nur as they tried to escape on a motorcycle from Fauzi’s house located on Jl. Asem also in Pamulang on Tuesday.
