The Supreme Court has upheld a seven-year jail sentence and Rp 200 million in fines previously handed down to former Manado mayor Jimmy Rimba Rogi, who lodged an appeal after being found guilty of corruption last year.
The court also ordered Jimmy pay Rp 64.1 billion in restitution to the state, Antara reported Wednesday.
A member of the panel of judges, Krisna Harahap, said evidence presented in the hearing confirmed Jimmy was legally and convincingly guilty of enriching himself and others.
Jimmy was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment by the Corruption Court in August last year. The Jakarta High Court then handed down a harsher sentence, adding two years to Jimmy’s sentence, in November last year.
Jimmy was found to have opened an account in the province-owned Bank BPD and moved the city’s standby cash into the account through several transfers in 2006. He subsequently withdrew Rp 48.2 billion from the account, but only Rp 1.9 billion was used for the Manado administration.
