Bomb threats at two Palembang malls

PALEMBANG, South Sumatra: Palembang Square and International Plaza, two shopping malls in Palembang, received bomb threats on Wednesday from an unidentified caller claiming to be a member of Jamaah Islamiyah.

The caller said he would detonate bombs in both malls. The police deployed the Gegana bomb squad, and the counterterrorism squad. Ilir Barat Police chief Adj. Comr. Gusti Candra, said his officers found a suspicious object in a garbage bin at International Plaza, but found nothing in Palembang Square. Police are still tracing the caller’s phone number, which has been inactive since the threat. — JP
