Gayus faces vote of no confidence

JAKARTA: The majority of disciplinary council members at the House of Representatives have
filed a vote of no confidence against their chairman Gayus Lumbuun.

House Speaker Marzuki Alie said Wednesday that he was aware of the motion, but said the legislative body would settle the matter accordingly.

“We are going to try to settle this issue in a sensible manner because there is no regulation on a vote of no confidence motion,” he told The Jakarta Post.

Gayus from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), questioned the motive behind the petition.

“What is the basis of the motion? Don’t file a motion simply because of a subjective dislike of my leadership,” he said.

Golkar’s chairman Harahap, one of Gayus’ deputies, denied that subjectivity was the reason for the petition.

“If almost all disciplinary council members sign the motion, then there has to be an objective reason for distrusting Gayus’ leadership,” he said. — JP
