One of the House of Representatives deputy speakers, Priyo Budi Santoso from the Golkar Party, says that there has been a growing initiative from some legislators to use their right to officially give their political opinion on the Bank Century bailout case.

The right to state a political opinion is just one step away from the House to issue a decision on possible impeachment.

“If there is no positive response from the law enforcement institutions in following up the House’s final recommendations on the case, then it is very possible for us to use our right to state a political opinion,” Priyo told reporters at the House in Jakarta on Thursday.

“We are going to wait and see on how the law enforcement institutions’ decision in following up the recommendations. It is still too early to raise the issue about stating our political opinion now,” he added.

In its final recommendations, the House says that the bailout policy on Bank Century is flawed and everyone suspected to be responsible for it must be legally processed as soon as possible.

The bailout was authorized in November 2008 by the then Bank Indonesia governor, Boediono, who is now vice president, and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati.

Speculations are rife that Boediono might face a possible impeachment as an implication of the case.
