MEDAN, North Sumatra: Legislator Panda Nababan was elected chairman of the North Sumatra branch of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) on Wednesday.
In closed-door vote, the top-brass PDI-P politician won against Budiman Nadapdap, head of the party’s faction at the North Sumatra legislative council.
Panda won with 17 votes to Budiman’s 10 and will serve for the next five years.
When asked about the latest legal trouble allegedly involving himself and 18 other politicians in the party, he declined to comment.
Nineteen politicians from the party were named by prosecutors for receiving bribes to back the election of Miranda Swaray Goeltom as Bank Indonesia senior deputy governor. Panda allegedly collected the largest amount of Rp 1.45 billion. — JP
