Acting KPK chief tenders resignation

JAKARTA: Acting Corruption eradication Commission (KPK) Tumpak Hatorangan Panggabean has tendered his resignation to the President after the House of Representatives rejected a government regulation that served as the basis for his position.

"I tendered my resignation on March 4, but I don't know what has becoming of it because as we know the President is overseas at the moment," Tumpak said Thursday as quoted by detik.com.

Tumpak has come under pressure to step down after the House of Representatives rejected the regulation last week on the grounds his position was no longer needed as the KPK leadership had returned to normalcy.

The regulation was issued in September after then KPK chief Antasari Azhar was detained in relation to a murder case, and two of his deputies, Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra M. Hamzah, were also named suspects for an alleged abuse of power and extortion. - JP
