JAKARTA: House Speaker Marzuki Alie of the Democratic Party on Thursday refused activists' demands for him to resign over a recent plenary session he chaired that ended in a brawl.
The demand came from a coalition of non-governmental organizations, which filed a request with the House's ethics council to review his position.
"What did I do wrong?" Mazuki said, adding that he respected the activists' move.
Marzuki came under the spotlight after a House plenary session on the Bank Century inquiry he chaired ended in chaos when irate legislators stormed the podium, accusing him of acting like a dictator when he adjourned the meeting without participants' approval.
He invited the activists to a discuss their demand. - JP
