PURWOKERTO, Central Java: An average of 2,000 people die in traffic accidents in Central Java annually, or six persons daily, says Nana Suyatna, head of the Central Java office of the Jasa Raharja state insurance firm in Purwokerto on Friday.

“The figure is based on insurance claims that we have paid. This is quite a concern and the traffic police should take note of this.”

Nana said a person died in a traffic accident every four hours in the province, while in a month the number of victims reached 180.

He said 13 people sustained injuries due to traffic accidents daily and insurance claimants were usually those seriously injured. — JP
