Three former lawmakers from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) are scheduled to testify before the Corruption Court on Monday on a graft case surrounding the 2004 election of a Bank Indonesia senior deputy governor.

Amir Karyatin, a lawyer for defendant Dudhie Makmun Murod on Sunday confirmed Monday's trial would hear testimonies from Dudhie’s then fellow PDI-P lawmakers: Williem M. Tutuarima, Engelina A. Pattiasina, and Sukardjo Hardjosoewirjo.

Aside from the three, the court would also summon two of Engelina’s staffers at that time, T. Mona Manik and Turyanto.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has charged Dudhie with the 2001 anticorruption law after allegedly receiving Rp 500 million (US$54,500) in bribes to back Miranda Swaray Goeltom as the central bank’s senior deputy governor.

In Dudhie’s indictiment, Williem, Engelina, and Sukardjo were also said to be part of 19 PDI-P politicians allegedly taking similar bribes, ranged from Rp 200 million to Rp 1.4 billion per person in the form of traveler’s checks.

The KPK has also named three other then lawmakers as suspects in the case: Endin Akhmad Jalaluddin Soefihara, Udju Djuhaeri, and Hamka Yandhu.

Amir criticized the KPK by saying that the commission had been biased in declaring suspects.

“Be fair. All figures found receiving the bribes must face equal treatment.

“It’s also strange that a bribery case results in no bribery suspect,” Amir told The Jakarta Post
