Packed like canned sardines, thousands of passengers everyday commute on trains between their homes in the outskirts of Jakarta and the capital city to make a living. Despite the poor state of the railway system, people choose this mode of transport for its affordability.

For years, customers have complained about the poor condition of the mass transit system. However, little action has been taken by PT Kereta Api, which runs the railway, to improve services.

Instead, the railway company points the finger at the large number of passengers who do not pay for trips, causing the company losses.
