Police and firefighters recovered two bodies from the burnt out Swallow footwear factory in Kamal Raya, West Jakarta, on Saturday.

“We identified one of the victims as Rusli, 70, but the other one has not been identified because the body was burned beyond recognition,” Kalideres Police detective chief second Insp. Herru SY told The Jakarta Post on Saturday.

The two bodies were found in the production room, part of the three-story building where firefighters successfully managed to totally extinguish the blaze.

Herru earlier said they suspected four people were trapped inside the building, while four injured victims had been taken to hospitals.

Ace Hidayat, 24, and Supratno, 27, were taken to Atmajaya Hospital while two others, Novaria, 23, and Atma, 29, were taken to Cengkareng Hospital and Bunda Suci Hospital respectively.

Flames broke out at the factory on Thursday afternoon and firefighters were only able to get the blaze under control more than 24 hours later.

“Firefighters are still making sure the blaze won’t break out, which is quite possible because of the chemicals and rubber in the factory,” he said, adding that some fires were not yet under control.
In a separate incident, a yacht caught fire at Pantai Mutiara, North Jakarta, on Saturday noon, but no casualties have been reported.

The fire department deployed 11 fire engines to extinguish the blaze.

“The firefighters have not returned to base so we haven’t received any reports on casualties or on the cause of the fire,” North Jakarta Fire Department spokesman Munidor told the Post.

Based on preliminary information, he said, there was no one on the yacht, only the owner’s property.

These two fires have brought the total number of blazes reported in the city this year alone to 46
cases.
