Power firm to save Rp 5.5b during Nyepi

DENPASAR: The Bali branch of state electricity company PT PLN, said that Nyepi would enable them to save up to Rp 5.5 billion in fuel costs.

During Nyepi, Balinese Hindus refrain from several things, including turning on any lights or using fire. Street lamps are also being turned off during Nyepi.

"All generators at our power plants will operate at normal levels. However, due to a significant decrease in the demand for power and power use during Nyepi, the generators will consume much less fuel than usual," he explained.

Average power consumption on Nyepi is 100 megawatts, in comparison to a peak of 515 megawatts on normal days. - JP
