Hindu followers observed the Day of Silence or locally known as Nyepi on Tuesday, stopping all activities from 6 a.m. for the next 24 hours.
Kompas.com reported that Hindu followers were prohibited from leaving home and turning on lamps at night.
Each village was guarded by security officers. Should someone need to go to hospital, he or she could leave home with the consent from local leaders.
