Vatican investigators have completed a probe into the conservative Legionaries of Christ order launched after it was revealed that the order's founder had fathered a child and had probably molested seminarians.
The Vatican said Tuesday the five investigators are to report back to Rome this week about their study of the Legionaries' 120 seminaries and schools. A final report will take several months.
Pope Benedict XVI ordered the probe last year after the Legionaries acknowledged that the late Rev. Marcial Maciel fathered a daughter and probably sexually abused seminarians. Since then, a Mexican woman has come forward to say Maciel fathered her two sons and sexually abused them.
The probe comes as the Vatican grapples with a European clerical sex scandal.
