A coalition of parliamentary watchdogs reported six lawmakers to the House of Representatives’ disciplinary council on Wednesday for various violations of the legislative body’s code of ethics, including two legislators who have been convicted by the court.

Spokesman for the coalition Sebastian Salang said Muhammad Izzul Islam from the United Development Party (PPP) had been found guilty of diploma falsification, while As’ad Syam from the Democratic Party had been convicted of corruption in the Bahar River power plant project, but they continued to serve as lawmakers.

“As far as we know, the two lawmakers are still listed as active legislators at the House,”
Sebastian of the Indonesian Parliamentary Watch (Formappi) told an audience at the council’s secretariat.

The coalition reported House speaker Marzuki Alie from the Democratic Party for apparent lack of leadership, evident during the House plenary session on the Bank Century bailout early this month. Marzuki delayed the plenary unilaterally as the lawmakers were divided over whether to vote on the House’s resolution or not.
