KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: Three villagers in Ledarega village, Sabu Raijua regency were killed
and 11 are in critical condition after consuming fish believed to contain poison. A medical team is still making efforts to save those 11.

Sabu Raijua regency secretary office head Dominggus Hawu said Tuesday the victims had eaten puffer fish roe.

“The puffer fish, caught by a fisherman, were very big and most of the villagers received its flesh and roe. Some became sick after eating it,” Dominggus said.

Eyewitnesses said the villagers experienced excruciating stomach pain, resembling the sensation
of internal lesions, between two
and three hours after consuming the fish. — JP
