JAKARTA: Hundreds of activists held a vigil at the Hotel Indonesia
traffic circle on Monday to protest the death of three street children
killed while trying to escape public order officials.
“We demand the elimination of the public order agency and the public
order bylaw that has become the legal foundation for officials to
repress the children,” Edi Saidi of the Urban Poor Consortium said.
Three street children, Ari Susanto, Muhammad Faisal, and Christian Adi Wibowo, 17, died during a raid on street buskers.
Public order officers chased the boys, resulting in Ari jumping into a canal and Faisal getting hit by a truck. — JP
