Comments: Hobbits and the theory of evolution

A- A A+

March 16, p. 8

An article published in the Post on March 8, by Michael Casey, mentioned that the finding of Hobbit challenges the theory of evolution.
The article is in fact a sort of gathered reports from different anthropologists in the US. He made different interpretation, but I don’t think that hobbit finding challenges the theory of evolution.

Your comments:
The finding of the hobbit shouldn’t challenge the theory of evolution. There are already many scientific interpretations of evolution and this is just one more to add to the long list, which also includes interbreeding.

I agree that the hobbit doesn’t challenge evolution, but I disagree with your last sentence. If we got DNA, like we did with Neanderthals, we would be able to tell if they were a separate species or not. I’m hoping for some intact mitochondrial DNA to show up in a tooth or something.
