MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi:
A team from the National Commission on Human Rights questioned South Sulawesi Police chief Insp.
Gen. Adang Rochjana Wednesday to follow up indications of human rights
violations in the recent attack against the Association of Muslim
Students (HMI) secretariat.
In the three-and-a-half-hour meeting, Adang explained discussed in
detail the attack that led to clashes between the students, the police
and residents.
He said it would be up to the four-member commission, led by Jhony Nelson Simanjuntak,
to evaluate the case but he also requested that they investigate damage suffered by a police station and a patrol car caused by the students.
“Human rights apply to all... So anyone who violates [human rights] should be investigated.”
Jhony said that the commission had gathered several facts that should be further investigated. — JP
