JAKARTA: A man who reported the brothers of graft convict Artalyta
Suryani to police for alleged corruption blasted the Attorney Generals’
Office (AGO) on Thursday for not taking the case to court.
“Would Indonesia be thrown into a tumult if Simon and Aman [Susilo]
were summoned to stand trial? [Why did] the attorneys decide to drop
the case? This is nonsense,” said Agung Mattauch, the coordinator of
the solidarity group for Budhi Yuwono, a businessman who filed the
report against Artalyta’s brothers.
The AGO said it had to drop the case because of a lack of evidence.
Agung said the prosecutors should have handed the case dossiers to the
court and let judges decide whether the two men were innocent.
Budhi reported Simon and Aman to Lampung Police in 2005 for allegedly
forging an authorization letter to withdraw PT Bumirejo’s deposits
worth Rp 32 billion and US$1.4 million in Bank Danamon. — JP
