Up to 1,500 soldiers of the Indonesian Military (TNI) and 200 officers of the National Police have taken part in a joint exercise in Bandung with the aim to curb the movement of terrorists in West Java.
West Java Police chief Insp. Gen. Timur Pradopo said in Bandung that the joint exercise would be held from Friday to Sunday.
This is part of a series of activities designed to fight against terrorism activities in West Java in 2010, Pradopo said, adding that terrorism constituted a crime that must be anticipated.
“Each unit has its own force to eradicate terrorism. All procedures must be executed, an one is through the exercise,” Pradopo said as quoted by the Antara news agency on Friday.
Responding to questions on southern parts of West Java, said to be prone for terrorist hideouts, the police chief said that security had been intensified not only in southern parts, but also the whole province.
“All areas within West Java are tightly controlled... not only the southern parts of the province,” he reiterated.
