JAKARTA: Governor Fauzi Bowo said the administration would help rectify the substandard electricity installation in Tambora, West Jakarta, following a fire that destroyed 100 houses in Krendang subdistrict on Thursday.
"I promise that we will help fix *the electricity installation*. We will work with the Indonesian Electricity Contractor Association *AKLI*," he said.
He said work would begin after residents started rebuilding their houses.
Fauzi added that the city would also request that state-owned electricity monopoly PT PLN reduce and limit the supply of electricity to houses that did not have building permits.
Fauzi said that since the risk of fire was high in densely populated area, residents should be more responsible when using electricity.
Fires frequently break out in densely populated in Tambora.
In December, fire destroyed hundreds of houses and shops in five neighborhoods. A firefighter was killed in the incident. - JP
