Thousands of Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) supporters took to street on Saturday to call for a movement to save Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem from Israel.
Braving a heavy rain, the party supporters marched from the National Monument compound to Hotel Indonesia traffic circle, unfurling banners which read “Save Al Aqsa Mosque from Zionist Israel” and “One man one dollar to save Palestine”, Antara reported.
“We will prove Indonesian people are ready to support any movement to protect Al Aqsa, the third holiest mosque in the world,” chairman of the party’s Jakarta chapter Tri Wisaksana told the audience.
The rally was a response to Israeli excavation to build a tunnel that will endanger the foundation of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
During the rally the party asked the Indonesian government to officially protest the project and gather international support for a UN Security Council meeting to condemn Israel.
Sabam Sirait, senior politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, and a number of public figures attended the rally.
