"As sleep is a time when memories get consolidated, people with poor sleep tend to be more forgetful."
Most visitors to Singapore will probably find enough to keep them entertained well into the night. But one should never forget the importance of a good night's sleep - especially when following a most hectic travel schedule!
A currently ongoing event in Singapore is shedding a light on various sleeping issues, from sleeping disorders and treatments to highlights on important sleep-related knowledge and perception.
Organized by the folks at the Singapore Sleep Society (SSS), the inaugural Singapore Sleep Awareness Week is celebrated between March 19 and 28, 2010 and features such exciting programs as public symposium and tour arrangements to "Sleep Labs" across the city-state.
The Good Sleep for Good Health Public Symposium and Fair is a not-to-be-missed event to be centered at the SMU Conference Hall, Victoria Street, this coming March 27.
The symposium will feature renowned local experts on sleep disorder and discuss topics like snoring, the minimum amount of sleep one should get, the causes of sleepless nights, and sleep problems in children.
On the day, specific talks and tours will also be arranged at the Singapore General Hospital, Gleneagles Medical Centre and Changi General Hospital. Tickets are priced at S$10 nett per person inclusive of refreshments.
For those curious about the range of facilities available to treat sleep patients, "Visit a Sleep Lab" is a special open house program organized by SSS together with campaign partners also held on March 27.
Formed in 2002, SSS is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to promoting awareness, understanding and research in the field of sleep medicine in Singapore.
