Theresia Ebenna Ezeria Pardede, known as Tere, never planned to become a musician or a legislator. But she definitely plans to do two things on her days off: playing music and watching movies.

I think the concept of days off has yet to be understood by people in this country. Most people think that those who work on the weekend are dedicated, while those taking time to relax are lazy. Actually, days off are important for the health of our body and soul. Ever since I became a legislator, I rarely have days off, but instead take time outs.

I play music with my guitar during my spare time. It’s a way to relax and clear my mind. I also try to spend quality time with my husband on the weekend. We usually go to the cinema and watch movies. My days off have no routine, they just flow, but playing music and watching movies are obligatory.

My husband is a movie director, and therefore going to the cinema is half working, half leisure. Or we just watch TV cable together. We don’t have any favorite movie genre, just any kind of movies that are showing. The last movie we saw was The Spy Next Door.

I also enjoy taking reflexology massage, I think it’s good for my health. On any national holiday, I try to spend time with my extended family. We usually eat and play games together. The games we play range from flying fox to swimming.

When I was a little kid, I preferred to spend my holiday reading books. My favorite children’s books include Alfred Hitchcock’s detective series, Agatha Christie, STOP, Enid Blyton and also comics. I had so many comic collections, such as Smurf, Agent 212, Asterix and Kung Fu Boy.

Those comic teach good values. But, now we rarely find good books.

Now I try to buy and read books written by Indonesians. I see that we are getting more imported books on the bookstore’s shelves. We should encourage our writers by buying their works.
