The slopes of Mount Merapi in the Sleman Regency of Yogyakarta are considered prone to terrorism activities, says a public order enforcement officer.
“We have mapped several areas, such as the Ngemplak district and the slopes of Mt. Merapi, which it is believed could provide suitable terrain to foster terrorist activities,” Sleman Satpol public order official Singgih Sudibyo said Sunday as quoted by kompas.com.
The Ngemplak district is a good area for concealment, while the Mt. Merapi slopes could conceal paramilitary training by possible terrorist groups, he added.
“We also have detected suspicious activity in the Kaliadem area of the Cangkringan district,” said Singgih, adding that his team had coordinated with Sleman police officers to supervise what could be possibly insecure areas.
