An elderly man rides a bicycle with three children around Fatahillah Square in West Jakarta. The Fatahillah Museum, also known as the Batavia Museum or Museum of History has an extensive collection and boasts a floor space of 1,300 square meters. Visitors can hire bicycles and ride around the square (in front of the museum) for Rp 20,000 an hour.
Using bicycles is a good way to enjoy the architecture of this area, which features many old buildings of colonial heritage. Hundreds of bicycles, mostly older models, are parked near the museum for visitors to hire. Men and women, old and young often ride hire these bikes to ride around the area, known as Jakarta's Old Town. Some of them, with extra energy, pedal to the Marine Museum and Sunda Kelapa, neither of which are far from Fatahillah Square.
