Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) outgoing chairman Hasyim Muzadi was not yet ready to hold a position as the chairman of the NU’s legal body (rais aam syuriah), a number of ulema at the country's biggest Muslim organization said Monday.
Jam'iyyah Ahlith Thoriqoh Al Mu'tabaroh An Nahdiyyah (Jatman) chairman Habib Thaha said there were many NU senior ulema who had more dedication, knowledge and wisdom than Hasyim.
“Hasyim is a potential asset for the NU, but it is not yet his time to be a rais aam, except if the senior ulema allow him to do so," he said.
He claimed Sahal Mafuds and Mustofa Bisri were both more eligible to be chairman of the NU”s legislative body.
