A group of terrorists entered a five-star hotel in Kuta resort, a venue of an international conference attended by world leaders.

The terrorists, disguised as hotel attendants, had successfully taken
a number of VIP persons as their hostages.

However, the presidential security guards and antiterrorist squad Densus 88 were quick to save the President and to handle terrorist attacks thanks to their readiness and alertness.
Members of Densus 88 also found significant amount of low-explosive bombs in a house nearby the venue.

This was a scenario played out together by the Bali Police and members of Udayana Military Command in an antiterrorist simulation practice held Saturday near the Ngurah Rai International Airport in Tuban.

Bali Police chief Insp. Gen. Sutisna said the joint police-military exercise aimed to increase their alertness in facing and combating terrorist attacks on the island.

“[The joint exercise] was part of our efforts to secure the island from any terrorist actions during the visit of the US President Barack Obama to Bali,” Sutisna said.

President Obama was scheduled to visit Bali next week but his visit has been delayed until June.
“Although the visit was postponed, we have to ensure that Bali is secure and free from any possible terrorist threats,” Sutisna said.

With its reputation as one of the world’s most famous tourist destinations, Bali, which was attacked by terrorist bombs twice in October 2002 and October 2005, has reportedly been an easy way for terrorists to gain international attention.

Sutisna said the joint exercise was important to increase the skills of the police and military members to anticipate any terrorist treats.

“The readiness of our members, the availability of necessary military equipment and technology are important to keep our country safe from terrorism,” Sutisna said.

“We badly need support from the entire community members to always keep on alert for terrorist threats.”
