RI youth shuttlers breeze past Mongolia

JAKARTA: The Indonesian youth badminton team handed Mongolia a 5-0
thrashing on the first day of the Asia Youth Under-19 Championship
mixed-team event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Sunday.
Women’s singles Renna Suwarno crushed Munkhbayar Dulamsuren 21-0, 21-1,
while men’s singles Evert Sukamta beat Purevsuren Enkhmandakh 21-9,
21-3. Indonesian shuttlers finished the mixed, women’s and men’s
doubles games in less than 15 minutes each.
The event, which runs until March 28, is followed by the World Junior
Championship on April 16-25 in Mexico, and serves as the qualifier for
the singles shuttlers to secure a place at the Youth Olympics Games in
Singapore in August.
The 16-member Indonesian team faces Vietnam in Group E matches on Monday. — JP
