JAKARTA: The slopes of Mount Merapi in the Sleman Regency of Yogyakarta are considered prone to terrorism activities, says a public order enforcement officer.

"We have mapped several areas, such as the Ngemplak district and the slopes of Mt. Merapi, which is believed to be able to provide suitable terrain to foster terrorist activities," Sleman Satpol public order official Singgih Sudibyo said Sunday as quoted by kompas.com.

The Ngemplak district is a good area for concealment, while the Mt. Merapi slopes could conceal paramilitary training by possible terrorist groups, Singgih added.

"We also have detected suspicious activity in the Kaliadem area of the Cangkringan district."

Singgih added his team had coordinated with Sleman police officers to supervise potentially insecure areas. - JP
