Text your say: Smoking is haram?

People are mature enough to decide whether smoking is benefits them or not. The Muhammadiyah or other Muslim organizations need not warn their followers from a religious perspective.
There are smokers who, let’s say, obediently fulfill Islam values even those labeled as kyai, Muslim leaders. This will make them think that the sinner is not the smoker, but the party who creates such a religious rule based on human thought.
Don’t make the smoking issue into a fatwa, it will not work.

All of the recent attention concerning the fatwa issued by the Muhammadiyah highlights the need for the broader regulation of tobacco products in Indonesia.
PT HM Sampoerna Tbk. believes that smoking is an adult choice that the many adult smokers in Indonesia should be able to continue to make. However, the manufacture, sale and use of tobacco products should be further regulated.
We support the government’s commitment to continue to follow the tobacco industry roadmap that takes account of the employment in the tobacco sector, state revenues from tobacco, and health.
We also continue to encourage the government to consider tobacco regulation that includes measures such as a minimum age law, clear public smoking regulations and further restrictions on tobacco marketing.

Extramarital sex and alcohol are haram but who cares! So stop wasting energy on useless projects of “haram”ization. It is better to promote peace and cope with other crucial problems like child abuse and domestic violence.

It’s great to hear that the Muhammadiyah has declared smoking is haram. Next, I would like to see
extremists “sweep” all smokers from restaurants, malls and public transportation!

The Muhammadiyah is indeed our national hero for issuing a fatwa stating that smoking is haram. It will be remembered in our national history. In fact it is guidance for our government.

A tobacco link to heart disease and countless other fatal diseases is not only fully established but
has been for half a century. It is without doubt.

Smoking does not only damage people’s health, it kills; not only the smokers, but those around them from secondary passive smoking.
These have been the established, known facts for decades. As a result many countries have banned smoking in all public buildings and enclosed spaces — sometimes it’s even banned in some places outside.
