Letter: The Bank Century fallout
| Tue, 03/23/2010 9:54 AM
I have been following the Bank Century case and believe the President
and the central bank were very right at the time to put straight the
economic situation of Indonesia in the face of the world economic
crisis.
Who would want to invest here if the banking sector was not secure and
had gone haywire? It is the main pillar of the economy. However, those
in the House of Representatives who wanted the case to be treated as a criminal one (for breach of trust) are only
putting their personal and political interests ahead of national
interests.
I really pity all those in the House who used the bailout’s fallout for
personal gain and supported the view that the government be held
criminally liable.
Who’s more of a criminal: The people who shored up the integrity of the
entire Indonesian economy, or those who want the economy to collapse
for the benefit of a few?
I sincerely plead for us to put Indonesia back on the straight and
narrow, as the economy is already on the right track. Please do not
bring it back down. The people and Indonesia will suffer, and the world
will look down on Indonesia.
